Live Selling Is Blowing Up And Honestly? If You're Not In It Yet, You Need To Be

Posted by Summer Guerrieri on 6th Jul 2026

Okay so I've been in the wholesale jewelry game for 19 years now. I've seen flea markets boom, I've seen eBay take over, I've seen Instagram selling have its moment. But I gotta tell you, I have never seen anything move as fast as live selling is moving right now. And I mean never.

If you sell jewelry, accessories, closeouts, anything... you need to pay attention to this one. Let's get into it.

Wait, What Is Live Selling?

For anyone who hasn't tried it yet: live selling is basically home shopping network energy, but you're the host, and it's happening on an app instead of TV. You go live, you show your product, people bid or buy in real time, and you ship it out. That's it. No fancy studio, no big team. Just you, your phone, and a bin of good inventory.

I know it sounds intimidating if you've never done it. But the sellers who jump in now are the ones who are going to look back in two years and say "man, I'm so glad I started when I did."

The Numbers Are Honestly Kind of Insane

I don't like to get hyped up over nothing... I want to back up what I'm saying with real numbers, because that's just how I operate. So here's what's actually happening.

Whatnot did $8 billion in GMV in 2025, that's more than double the $3 billion it did the year before (Fortune). Doubling in a single year is not normal growth, that's explosive growth.

And it's not slowing down. As of June 2026, Whatnot crossed 1 billion total orders. A billion! On one platform! Right now 20 items are sold on Whatnot every single second.

Whatnot now holds nearly 60% of the entire live shopping market across North America and Europe (Whatnot 2026 State of Live Selling Report). That means if you're going live anywhere, there's a real good chance your buyers are already there.

Here's the one that really got me though: jewelry was one of Whatnot's fastest growing categories in all of 2025, up 259% year over year (Sacra). That's our category! Jewelry sellers are having a moment on live and I don't want you to miss it.

Zoom out even further and it gets crazier — global live commerce is projected to hit $3.7 trillion by 2030 (Electroiq). Trillion, with a T. This isn't a trend, this is a whole new way people are going to shop from now on. And 53% of Whatnot sellers now say live selling is the majority of their income... not a side hustle, their main income. That could be you.

Gary Vee Called This

Gary Vaynerchuk has been saying for a while now that people who ignore where attention is going get left behind, and I think about that a lot with live selling. He's been telling anyone who'll listen that the sellers sitting on the sidelines right now, waiting to "see how it goes," are going to wake up in a year or two and realize their competition already built an audience, already built momentum, and they're starting from zero. The window to get in early is open right now. It won't stay open forever.

The Platforms You Should Actually Know

Whatnot is the big one right now, no question. That's where most of the jewelry action is happening. But it's not the only game in town, and I'd rather you know all your options.

eBay Live is great if you already have an eBay following built up. Amazon Live gives you access to Amazon's massive customer base, which speaks for itself. TikTok Shop blends content and selling in a way that works great if you're comfortable being a little more entertaining on camera. And then there are newer platforms like Palm Street and District, which are carving out their own space and worth keeping an eye on as they grow.

My advice? Don't try to be everywhere at once. Pick one, get good at it, then expand.

Okay So Where Do You Get Inventory For This?

Live selling only works if your margins work. You're moving fast, selling low price points, sometimes dozens of pieces in a single stream. If your cost per item is too high, you'll burn out fast.

That's literally why I built CheapWholesaleJewelry.com the way I did. My wholesale lots start as low as $0.75 per piece, and I carry name-brand lots that are perfect for a live audience — recognizable, good quality, priced right. When your cost is that low, your profit margins on stream get wide, even when you're selling fast and keeping prices friendly for your buyers. I built this business thinking about resellers like you, because I've been you, I am you.

Don't Get Left Behind

Live selling isn't a fad — the numbers just don't support that read. $8 billion in GMV, a billion orders, 259% growth in jewelry, a $3.7 trillion future. That's not hype, that's math. The only question is whether you're going to be one of the sellers riding this wave early, or one of the ones scrambling to catch up in a year.

Go browse CheapWholesaleJewelry.com and stock up on inventory that's actually built for live selling margins. And sign up for my email list — we send out new lot drops, closeout deals, and tips like this regularly, and I don't want you missing a good drop because you weren't on the list.

If you are alreday on any of these platforms, please feel free to share links to your profile and/or shows below! If you're not Live yet, let's get you set up and going live! I'll see you in the comments!
